Mini Skein Swap

with Tracy Workman

Description:

Rules:

At least 7 grams each. Please skein them up (and if you have the info, please try and label them.)

How it will work: Bring a mini skein, take a mini skein. So if you bring 1, you take 1. If you bring 5 mini skeins, you may take 5 mini skeins (3, 4, 20, etc.)

Got it? Easy Peasy!

If you have a class/5k you may send a proxy in your place to swap for you. (Please let us know who your proxy is.)

To make things fair, as you bring up your mini skeins, we’ll have you write down your Ravelry/Discord name and the number of skeins you are trading, then once everyone has turned in their skeins, we’ll draw from the hat for each persons turn to pick. Similar to the $20 skein swap we’ve had in the past.

Oh and the TWIST? You only have 20 seconds to pick out your new skeins during your turn (for the sake of time!)

IF you don’t make the 20 second time limit, you have to put ALL the mini’s you did choose back on the table, and your name goes back in the hat/bucket/bowl! Say you are picked first, if you don’t hit your 20 seconds, you could end up middle or last, depending on when your name gets chosen again!

Any leftovers will be put on the winding table for first come first serve.

Materials:

Bring Minis! See Rules above for size.

Class duration:

30 minutes

Offered:

Friday June 25th, 10:30AM -11AM, Commons Room

F3

Double the Fun with Large Gauge Stitches

With Shaina Scott

Description:

During this class, students will learn the fun technique of adding multi-gauge stitches to their knitting. We'll cover the basics of creating knit stitches that are 2 and 3 times the size of normal stitches, and how to add this technique into a pre-existing pattern. We'll be adding this technique to a simple set of fingerless mitts that students will prepare ahead of time as homework. By the end of class students should be binding off and will have a finished project to take home.

Skill level: Intermediate; students should be comfortable with cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off stitches, and picking up stitches with a crochet hook.

Materials/
Homework:

Participants should bring a crochet hook in a size similar to the needles used; locking stitch markers; scissors; notepad and pen; and at least 1 homework mitt with stitches live on the needles OR a 6" swatch with the stitches live on the needles.

Homework: I will be providing full copies of the Gaugetastic Mitts pattern to all students at no extra charge. These will be sent upon registration so you have time to prepare at least one mitt before class.

Class duration:

60 minutes

Offered:

Friday June 25th, 1:30PM - 2:30PM, Commons Room

Max Class Size:

Basic Brioche

During this class, students will learn the basic brioche rib stitch, how to knit brioche using 1 or 2 colors, how to bind off, and how to read their knitting. Students will be given a pattern for the Giant Color Shift Brioche Scarf at no charge, but in class we will be making a smaller sample piece so that all the techniques for the scarf will be covered in the time allotted. By the end of class, students will have the necessary skills to complete the scarf on their own.

Skill level: Intermediate; students should be comfortable with cast-on, knit, purl, yarn-over, and bind-off stitches.

Materials:

For the in-class sample piece, participants should bring 50 yards each of at least 2 colors of worsted weight yarn (this can be scrap yarn); and circular knitting needles 1–2 sizes smaller than what you would normally use for knitting stockinette on worsted weight yarn, straight needles will not work. (If you are a tight knitter, go down 1 size. If you knit more loosely, go down 2 sizes.)

The Giant Color Shift Brioche Scarf requires size 7 (4.5 mm) 16" circular knitting needles; and 3 balls of Knitpicks City Tweed HW in 3 different colors OR about 165 yards each of 3 colors of any aran/heavy worsted weight yarn.
